Advocacy Keeps informed of local, state and national legislation and
the PTA position. May be asked to phone or write legislators concerning issues.
Art Classes After school art classes for children in grades K-6.
Carnival Provides a fun-filled day with lots of games, prizes and food
for elementary students and their families.
Child Care Help with child care for Parent/Teacher conferences and PTA
programs.
Community Service Volunteers collect, sort and assemble baskets filled with
canned goods and other food products to be distributed to Finneytown families
for the holidays.
Corporate Opportunities Coordinates corporate fund-raising opportunities such
as Box Tops for Education.
Dance Classes Ballet, tap and jazz lessons are provided for three year-olds
through 8th grade. This culminates in a spring recital.
Education Grant Committee Reviews applications submitted by Finneytown
teachers and awards grants.
Everybody Counts Volunteers conduct classroom presentations designed to
educate children about persons with disabilities, i.e. physical, mental, visual
and hearing impairments.
Family Involvement Each school has a self run family involvement group. The
PTA board includes a representative from each school that serves as a liaison
and to offer cross communication opportunities between schools. The PTA school
representative also organizes the room parents.
Hospitality Provides refreshments at elementary school open house and PTA
functions. Also coordinates Teacher Appreciation week activities.
Market Day A monthly food co-op program. You may purchase high quality food
products, with a portion of the proceeds supporting PTA activities.
Membership Organizes and conducts the fall membership drive. Provide
membership assistance throughout the year.
Newsletter Published monthly to keep families informed of PTA activities,
upcoming dates, parent information and education, and opportunities for parent
involvement in the schools.
Penny Round-up Encourages students to collect their pennies and watch them
grow. The funds are used to support school projects.
Reflections (Cultural Arts Contest) Autumn arts competition sponsored by
National PTA in the categories of music, literature, visual arts and
photography. Winners are honored at a December ceremony. First place advances to
the county level, and possibly the state and national levels.
Resource Center Volunteers work in the libraries at each school, assisting the
librarian in checking out books and returning them to shelves.
Room Parents Organize class holiday parties, field trips, volunteers for PTA
in class presentations and other class needs. (Coordinated by the schools PTA
Family Involvement Representative).
Spanish Class After school classes to teach beginning Spanish.
Volunteer Coordinator Matches volunteers to projects. Opportunities both large and small
can be found to fit your talents and time available.
Ways and Means Examines fund-raising opportunities and coordinates those
activities.
